Abstract

Indicators, alarm and signal.-A pressure relief valve 10 is operated by a piston 2, which is depressed so as to open the valve when the steam pressure rises sufficiently to open a spring-pressed valve 14 in a pipe 12 connecting the space above the piston to the boiler. The space above the piston is also connected by a pipe 12<a> to a floatoperated valve allowing steam to pass when the water-level falls. A valve 18 in a steam pipe 15 opening below the piston is normally retained on its seat by the steam pressure, and is lifted by a spring when the pressure falls, thus raising the piston and closing the relief valve.
