Abstract

5892. Alley, S. E., and McGregor, R. March 9. Regulating.-A relief-valve mechanism for use with thermal storage tanks in mixed-pressure steam-turbine systems &c. comprises a main valve A connected by a lever C to the rod of a piston F. As long as the pressure in the tank is below a predetermined limit, the valve A remains closed under the action of twin springs S (shown in dotted lines) arranged outside the casing. When the pressure rises, it is transmitted through a pipe to a union W, lifts a weighted valve U, and forces down the piston F, thereby opening the valve A. The steam passing through the valve U escapes through a passage O provided with an adjustable valve P. A diaphragm-operated valve, which may be used in place of the weighted valve U, is described.
