Abstract

239,281. Superheater Co., Ltd., (formerly Marine & Locomotive Superheaters, Ltd.), and Boyes, F. A. June 4, 1924. Fluid-actuated valves. - A relief valve device particularly applicable for use on locomotive and other engines fitted with anti-vacuum valves and/ or steam circulating valves ha.s two valve members arranged in series, one adapted to open with a relatively low pressure and the, other adapted to close with a predetermined higher pressure. In the form shown, an outer hollow valve member guided by ribs, on the casing has a conical valve face, at its lower end adapted to co-operate with a corresponding seat so as to open at a low pressure to permit the over-pressure to escape through a conduit 4. An inner valve-member 8 normally supported by a collar 9 resting on a perforated guide-plate 11 co-operates with a seat 14 on the cover-plate 3. The lower end of the member 8 is provided with a small plunger 8<a> slidably mounted in the outer member and subject to inlet pressure so that the valve is closed when the pressure reaches a predetermined' maximum.
