Abstract

237,435. Dederich, W. Feb. 27, 1924. Closure members.-A balanced lift valve of the kind in which the main valve member carries an auxiliary valve adapted to control the supply and exhaust of pressure fluid to and from a chamberat the back of a piston to which the valve member is attached has the main valve subject to the action of a throttling device arranged between the live steam chamber and the main valve seat. In the form shown in the Figure the main valve member is formed integrally with a piston 3' of the same diameter and co-operates with a seat 17 so arranged in the casing as to leave only a restricted annular channel 16 between the valve member and casing. The auxiliary valve 4 mounted on a spindle 7 is guided by ribs 8 to engage an exhaust port 15 in the main valve member. The valve spindle is also formed with an enlargement 4 adapted to slide through a plate 10 held against the ribs 8 by an inner chamber 9 secured in position by pipes 12. The enlargement 14 co-operates with an aperture 11 to throttle the supply of steam to the. back of the piston. In a modification, the piston is made slightly larger than the valve members and the cylindrical enlargement is replaced by a lift valve member.
