Safety-valves. - A safety-valve of the kind opened by pressure acting on a piston carried by the valve spindle under the control of an auxiliary valve has the steam passage leading to the underside of the pilot valve connected to a point outside the zone of pressure velocity transformation. In the form shown in the Figure, the passages 2 leading to the auxiliary valves are extended by tubular connections- 3 supported by a pipe 5 within the boiler shell 4. In a modification, the pilot valves are mounted directly on the boiler shell. The main valve chest may constitute part of the main steam pipe or may rest on a saddlepiece on the main steam pipe.
