Abstract

Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves.-A valve of the kind actuated by fluid pressure acting on a differential piston under the control of an auxiliary valve seating on the main valve is arranged to act as combined relief valve and liquid level or pressure regulating valve or as a relief valve alone. In the form shown in Fig. 1, inlet pressure is admitted through a passage a<3> controlled by a throttling screw c to a chamber at the back of the main actuating piston, from which it is exhausted through a passage b<1> in the nose of the valve member under the control of the auxiliary valve d. The spindle d<1> of the auxiliary valve is coupled by a link e to a weighted lever f pivoted at e<1> and connected by a rod g<1> to an actuating piston g. The space below the piston g is connected to the inlet a' by a passage i controlled by a second auxiliary valve actuated by a float k<1>. The float may be replaced by a piston subject to the pressure in the outlet conduit. In a modification the piston g and auxiliary valve are arranged on a common spindle. When it is desired to use the device as a relief valve alone the valve is secured in the open position.
