Abstract

Feedwater, controlling. - A balanced by-pass valve 4 in the feed pipe 5 is controlled by a relief valve 18 operated by a diaphragm or like device 2 arranged above the boiler and subjected on one side to the varying pressure, in a pipe 8 opening at the normal water level in the boiler and on the other side to the constant pressure in a pipe 7 connected to the boiler water or steam space. A pipe 9 drains the side of the diaphragm device connected with the pipe 8. The bye-pass valve is of the kind described in Specification 16097/02, and comprises a piston formed with a hole through which the feed water flows to the back of the piston. When the boiler level rises above the normal and the pipe is full of water, the relief valve 18 is opened, the pressure above the piston of the by-pass valve is thereby relieved through pipes 20, 19, and the bye-pass valve is lifted thus allowing the feed to return through a pipe 12 to the feed tank.
