Abstract

183,719. Merritt, F. W., and Watts, A. E. Aug. 15, 1921. Draught, indicating.-A device for automatically indicating a ship's draught comprises a pipe 2 containing strainers 3<a> and communicating with an aperture in the bottom of ship protected by a hood 12. A second pipe system 7 in communication with a pressure gauge 8 is separated from the pipe 2 by a simple or compound cylinder 4 in which works a piston 5 one part of which may be of reduced bore. Hydrostatic pressure set up in the pipe 2 is communicated through the piston 5 and the fluid in the pipe system 7 to the gauge 8. The pipe system 7 comprises an hermeticallysealed filling device 10 and a screw operated pressure regulating device 11. The valve-controlled pipe 6 forward of the strainers 3<a> communicates with the ship's boiler or other source of pressure. Sediment may thus be blown out of the lower pipe 2.
