Abstract

Levels, regulating.-The level of the liquid in a tank 2 is maintained constant by the alternate sealing and unsealing of an air tube 6 connected to a reservoir 1 having a filling-tube 5 open to the atmosphere and depending into a well 4 formed in the bottom of the reservoir, the lower end of the air tube depending into a chamber 7 located either within or outside the tank and in free communication therewith. The unsealing of the lower end of the air tube results in the passage of air into the upper part of the reservoir and liquid through the valve-controlled tube 3 to the tank. The passage of air through the air tube to the reservoir may be controlled by a valve 9 on a pipe '8 communicating with the chamber 7. When used for maintaining the lubricating oil level in the sump of a motor vehicle, the filling-tube is provided with a strainer, and the reservoir with a level gauge 11.
