Abstract

215,552. Walster, J., and Walster, E. April 26, 1923. Levels, regulating.-In a bird-fountain device for maintaining the level of oil in the sump of an internal-combustion or other engine, means are provided for preventing oil from ascending the air pipe.. In the form shown in Fig. 1, wherein oil and air pipes b, d connect a sealed tank a to the sump through an extension piece c, an air valve f operated by a float g is fitted to the foot of the air pipe d, which is attached to a cap e' screwed to a cylindrical portion c<1> of the extension c. The cap e' is provided with air holes, and the portion c<1> is fitted with a glass sight-tube h. A cock l is provided in the oil pipe b and the tank a is provided with an inspection window. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the valve f is replaced by an anti-siphon device comprising an annular chamber p surrounding the upper end of the open-ended pipe b and connected to the tank a by a pipe q fitted with a cock l. The air pipe d is connected to a sleeve o screwed into the cap e'.
