Abstract

189,991. Alexander, W. Nov. 29, 1921. Draught, determining.-In draught-indicating apparatus such as described in Specifications 29105/09, 144,423 and 150,209 of the type in which the pressure of the head of liquid is balanced by gas pressure indicated by a pressure gauge, the zero of the. gauge is tested and indicated simultaneously with the source of gas pressure being put into communication with the water of flotation. The controlling-valve comprises a pair of ported barrels 4 rotating in unison. At the. preliminary setting of the valve, the port 79 is brought into connection with the pipe 7 fed by the source of compressed air and also in communication with the pipe 9 which leads to the bottom of the liquid-containing tank. Simultaneously the source of pressure is in connection through the port 79, 96 and the pipe 6 with the head of the indicating-column in the gauge-glass 2 and also with the other end of the column through the port 65 in communication with the gauge reservoir. In the other operative position of the valve, shown in Fig. 5, the pipe 9 connects with the gauge reservoir to transmit the pressure of the head of liquid to the indicating-column through the ports 79, 96. The head of the column is simultaneously in communication either with the atmosphere, or in the case of a pressure feed tank, with the top of the tank by way of the pipe 6, port 68, and pipe 8.
