Abstract

Indicators actuated by pressure of head of liquid.-A liquid-level indicator for petrol tanks wherefrom the fuel is withdrawn by a vacuum feed, comprises a small chamber disposed at the base of the pipe supplying fuel to the vacuum system, with a restricted fuel inlet from the tank and an air supply connection extending to a point between the top and bottom and above the inlet to the fuel outlet tube so as to have an air space above it. The head of fuel in the tank b causes a corresponding air pressure in a gauge pipe i. When a high degree of suction withdraws fuel from the chamber more quickly than it enters by the restricted inlet c air enters by a pipe h open to the atmosphere, to maintain the air charge. To minimize any inflow of air into the fuel pipe e the orifice c is preferably positioned immediately beneath the fuel pipe. The three pipes may be connected to a common cap k secured to the fuel tank.
