Abstract

Indicators actuated by pressure of head of liquid.-In a device for indicating the level of liquid in the fuel tank of a motor vehicle as described in the parent Specification, the fuel is supplied to a carburetter 3 below the tank 1 through an enlargement 5, the air space of which is connected through a pipe 8 to a gauge 9. To reduce the pressure effect due to the velocity of flow, the pipe 2 is enlarged at 2a so that the rate of flow is diminished at the point where the vessel 5 communicates with the pipe 2 through the openings 7. A thread-way valve 4 is provided, so that the vessel 5 may be placed in communication with the atmosphere as in Fig. 2 to ensure that the vessel 5 is filled with air down to the openings 7. In modifications, the openings 7 may be placed at a constricted part of the enlargement 2<a>, or they may be replaced by Pilot tubes, or the upper part of the pipe 2 may dip into the liquid in the vessel 5, the liquid then overflowing into the lower part of the pipe 2.
