[Class 135] In a high-lift safety valve of the kind in which the pressure in a huddling chamber a above the valve seat is opposed by the pressure in a counter chamber d to which steam is normally admitted when the valve opens, as well as by the loading spring m, a controlling device c is provided which delays the filling of the counter pressure chamber d until the pressure in the huddling chamber a and hence the boiler pressure has fallen to the desired value. The device c has a spring-closed valve e in the pipe connection v, f between the chambers a, d. When the safety valve opens initially, the pressure in the huddling chamber a has access through the pipe b to a chamber k containing a spring-loaded diaphragm or bellows h which is thereby raised from the control valve e so that the latter closes. The loading spring i is stronger than the valve spring g, but to accelerate the opening of the control valve, the interior or upper side of the bellows or diaphragm is connected by a branch l to the pipe f and is hence subject to the pressure in the counter chamber immediately the valve e opens. The chamber k may have a vent n.
