Abstract
502,218. Safety valves. KNORRBREMSE AKT.-GES. April 13, 1938, No. 11411. Convention date, May 3. 1937. Addition to 492,878. [Class 135] In the high-lift safety valve for steam boilers claimed in the parent Specification, the valve e in the controlling device c is maintained closed by the greater strength of its closing spring g over that of its opening spring i until after a certain lapse of time a steam pressure is built up in a chamber c<1> surrounding the spring g sufficient to overcome the resistance of the latter. The springs g, i are enclosed in bellows p, h respectively. The chamber c<1> communicates by a small bore o less than the bore of the pipe b with a chamber k which, when the valve c opens, connects the pipes b, f leading to the huddling chamber and the counter pressure chamber of the safety valve respectively. The size of the bore o and of the bellows p are chosen so that the time required for the pressure to build up to the necessary value in the chamber c<1> corresponds to that required for the pressure in the huddling chamber to fall to the desired value.
