[Class 135.] Lift valves; actuating- mechanism. - A blow down valve x for steam boilers is made operable by a lever h for quick operation and provided with a screwed sleeve c for holding the valve open, when required, or securely holding it in the closed position. The valve spindle d is plain and unthreaded and provided with abutments e, f with which a screwed sleeve c engages to hold the valve closed or open, respectively ; between these positions the valve spindle is free to be opened quickly by the lever h and closed subsequently by the spring i. A supplementary check valve j may be provided for cutting off the flow in the event of accident to the main valve x.
