Abstract

Actuating - mechanism; closure members. -A blow-off valve for steam boilers has two interconnected valve members c, i, the valve member c being arranged in the inlet section a of the casing and adapted to act as a safety cut-off valve under the influence of a spring v, while the valve i is housed in the outlet section d and acts as a discharge valve. The two sections of the casing are held together by equally spaced bolts, and the seat for the discharge valve and the bonnet supporting the actuating mechanism are held together by similar bolts so that the outlet section and/or the operating lever may occupy one of three alternative positions. The valves are arranged at right angles to the inlet and outlet passages, and are simultaneously opened by a lever k pivoted at k<1> and adjustably loaded by a spring g bearing against the head q of a bolt secured to the forked shorter arm of the lever bv a nut r. By screwing down the nut r, the discharge valve may be locked closed. The lever k is fitted with an extension w pivoted at o and secured in one of two positions by a frangible pin p engaging one of the holes x, y. The two valve members are interconnected by pins s engaging fins t, and the valve spindle is squared at u whereby both valves may be simultaneously ground in. The walls of the outlet section are made thinner than those of the inlet section.
