Abstract
382,119. Valve-actuating mechanism, GERDTS, G. F., 31, Markusallee, Horn, Bremen, Germany. Dec. 11, 1931, No. 34402. Convention date, March 30. [Class 135.] A blow-down valve for steam boilers is adapted to be opened by a lever and is closed by a spring acting through toggle links. In the form shown in the Figure, the valve member 2 is carried by a spindle 3 passing through a partition 17 to a bonnet 18 where it is secured to a slide 13 engaging a guid surface 15. The bent actuating lever 10 turns on a pin 7 and is pinned at 9 to a toggle link 5 pivoted to the slide 13 at 6. A loading spring 8 housed in a telescopic housing 19 is arranged transversely to the valve spindle and engages directly or indirectly with the centre pin 9 on the toggle system. In a modification the actuating lever co-operates directly with a pin on the slide 13 and has a projection engaging the movable spring abutment. Lostmotion is provided between the pin and slide so that the spring abutment is removed from the centre toggle pin before the lever pin engages the slide. In a further modification the guide surface is provided with a stop to limit the movement of the toggle links.
