Abstract

447,941. Valves. HOPKINSONS, Ltd., and BIRKBECK, J. R., Britannia Works, Wheathouse Road, Huddersfield. March 18, 1935, No. 8325. [Class 135] A byepass valve for use with parallel slide valves has a rotary valve spindle whereby the valve may be actuated to open or close the byepass and a see-saw valve member on the end of the spindle whereby when the byepass is closed the space between the main valve members is automatically connected to the side of the main valve which for the moment in subject to the higher pressure. The valve members o, p carried by a see-saw lever n pivoted at n<1> to the lower end of the actuating spindle l co-operate with seats j, k on the ends of passages connected by pipes to the two sides of the main valve. The chamber above the valve is connected by a third pipe with the chamber between the two main valve members. To ensure that one or other of the valves o, p is always seated when the byepass is closed a snap action spring r and toggle link q is arranged to act on the see-saw lever.
