Abstract
219,312. H³bner & Mayer, and Augustin, E. July 21, 1923, [Convention date]. Wedging or jamming.- A sluice valve fitted with a device for wedging the valve member on its seat has the casing an actuating-member provided with co-operating parts adapted to prevent the wedging device being operated before the valve member is correctly positioned opposite its seat. In the form shown in the Figure the valve member 3 is slidably mounted in a casing 2 adapted to be moved transversely of the valve seat 25a by a screwed spindle 4 and handwheel. On the inside the valve member is provided with guide legs 3<a> and outside has a positioning ring 25 standing higher than the valve face 24<a> and adapted to engage a corresponding ring 25 surrounding the valve seat. The wedging member 5 is carried by the valve spindle 4 and has inclined surfaces 15, 19 and 16 adapted to engage rollers 11, 13. The roller 11 is mounted on a spindle 10 passing through the valve member and casing 2 and fitted with further rollers engaging guides 21 arranged to prevent the valve member moving at right angles to the actuating spindle until it is opposite its seat. The roller 13 is carried by a shaft supported by links connected to the spindle 10 and passing through an aperture in the rear wall of the casing 2. Stop lugs 9 are provided to limit the movement of the casing 2. In a modification the inclined surface 16 is dispensed with and the pressure in the conduit acting on the face of the valve member is relied upon to move the valve member away from its seat during the opening movement. Further modi. fications are described in which bevel gear or cranked levers are used to wedge the valve member against its seat.
