Abstract

232,500. H³dig, G. Sept. 26, 1924. Wedging or jamming; casings. - A gate valve suitable for use with high temperatures and pressures is provided with a wedge device for pressing it to and from its seating at the moment of closing and opening, and with a sleeve which is moved into position to make the pipe-bore continuous when the valve is open. The closure disc 2 has at its upper end a rigid guide frame composed of two sleeves 3, 4 and two cross-bolts 5, 6. Each sleeve 3, 4 is mounted to slide longitudinally on bolts 7, 8, the ends of which are guided on vertical ribs 9 in the casing. The cross-bolt 5 is provided with a nose 11, Fig. 4, which engages in a recess 16 when the valve is closed. The cross-bolt 6 has a short inclined surface 12 for engagement with a cam surface 22 on the wedging member 20, Fig. 7, to lift the valve from its seating. The bolt 6 also has a nose 13, which, when the valve is lifted, strikes against a face 29 of a lever 28, and so causes this lever to move the sleeve 33 into such a position that it shuts off the fluid conduit from the recess 1 in which the valve is accommodated when in the open position. The wedge 20, Fig. 7, which is carried by the operating member 23, is provided with an inclined face 21 engaging with a similar inclined face on the back of the disc 2. In opening the valve, the disc 2 is first lifted off its seating by the engagement of the cam surface 22 with the inclined surface 12, until the nose 11 clears the recess 16. The valve then moves vertically into the recess 1 and is guided by the ribs 9, until the nose 13 operates the lever 28 to move the sleeve 33 into its operative position.
