Abstract

637,818. Valves. WESTERN STATES MACHINE CO. Aug. 8, 1947, No. 21852. Convention date, Jan. 7, 1941. [Class 135] A centrifuge 22, Fig. 1, is charged with massecuite from a supply tank 10 through a spout 12, the outlet from which is controlled by a rectangular plate 34 adapted to be slid over the mouth of the spout and to be wedged thereagainst when in the closed position by a cross-head 40. The cross-head coacts with abutments 46, 48, Fig. 3, on the plate and is actuated through linkage 54, 62 mounted on a shaft 60 operated by a lever 66 and supported by brackets 58 integral with the legs 33 of an H-shaped bronze facing 32 secured to the mouth of the spout. The cross-head is pressed against the mouth of the spout by spring-loaded washers 70, Fig. 2, and is wedged thereagainst, when the plate has reached its closed position, by the continued movement of the operating lever to take up the lost-motion between the cross-head and the stops 48, during which movement the tapered surfaces 82 and 84, Fig. 4, on the flanges 42 and 44 of the cross-head and the spout respectively become firmly jammed together. A drip-pan 94 is pivotally mounted at the lower edge of the spout. Specifications 7046/12, [Class 135], and 430,265 are referred to.
