Abstract

18,412. Waller, B. B., and Falfree, E. Aug. 7. Sluice valves.-A pullactuated sliding valve is provided with means for automatically jamming the valve member against its seat when the actuating-handle is released. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the actuating - handle is pivoted to a weighted lever k provided with a cam o adapted to engage the valve member b to press it against its seat, or a projection n to release it therefrom. The lever k is pivoted to a bridge-piece a running on guides f and having holes adapted to take over pins c secured to the back of the valve member. In a modification, the cam is formed on a spindle working in slots formed in a pair of lugs on the back of the valve member and adapted to engage one pair of a series of recesses formed in the guideplates.
