Abstract

Sliding valves; casings. - Relates to stop valves of the type in which a sliding disk with a serrated edge is rotated on its seating in the operation of closing. To prevent any particular point on the disk from retracing its path on the stationary facing, a single o r double spring pawl is arranged so as to engage the teeth as the disk is reciprocated by the spindle. The disk is thus rotated an indeterminable amount each time. In Fig. 1 an externally - mounted single pawl F, and in Fig. 2 an internally - mounted double pawl J, engages the valve disk C on the spindle B. The disk moves vertically. A counter-clockwise rotation is produced by the single pawl when the disk is driven downwards on to its seating, and a clockwise rotation by the double pawl J at each end of the travel of the spindle. The side cap H, Fig. 1, enables the single pawl to be inserted or removed without taking the valve to pieces. In a modified construction for use with valves with an horizontal spindle, the pawl is hinged to a plate which is itself attached to the casing.
