Latches, sliding.-A single spring is provided for the latch in such a way that it acts with greater force when the bolt is withdrawn by hand than when it is pressed in by the slamming of the door. The bolt g is connected to a lever f pivotally carried by a plate d on which the follower acts, and the actuating- spring m bears on the centre of the lever f. When the plate d is slid in the operation of the bolt, the lever f is moved therewith by reason of the projection o on the plate, and the spring is pressed back further than when the bolt is pressed in by the striking-plate and turns simply on its pivot n.
