Abstract

Catches, automatic.- A fastening for sliding doors comprises a pivoted arm 7 having an enlarged barrelshaped head 30 which is adapted to engage behind curved surfaces 34 in the striking-plate 33 under the action of a spring 45 on a rack 40 geared to the arm. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the arm 7 is maintained in its inoperative position while the door is open by means of a pivoted detent 49 which is released when the door is closed, by the auxiliary bolt 8. The detent mechanism may, however, be dispensed with, the bar being provided with a bevelled nose 31 adapted to ride over a projection 35 on the striking-plate and raise the head 30 into contact with the surfaces 34. Lock with bolt interlocking with staple.-In the form shown in Fig. 8, the rack 40 is provided with lever mechanism 74 and is adapted to be operated to actuate the bar by means of a key.
