Abstract

8529. Nicholson, H. April 11. Railway-carriage doors, fastening automatically; latches, sliding; turn-bolt fastenings. - A latch bolt 1 carries projections 12 whereby it is retained in the shot position when the train is in motion by the oscillation of an arc 10 through the pendulum 7. Figs. 2 and 3 show modifications in which the obstruction to the retraction of the bolt is effected by a slotted disk 24 which is operated by the pendulum 7, the arm 26 on the bolt being unable to pass into the slot 25 in the disk when this is in motion. A spring 27 and cushioning-devices 28 may be employed to assist the oscillation of the pendulum. The latch bolt is retained in the retracted position by a catch 15 which is released in closing the door by the rod 13. Fig. 4 shows a modification for a pivoted bolt 1 the spindle 4 of which is provided with cam-like parts 29. The pendulum is formed with a. hole 30 of similar shape to the spindle and adapted to engage therewith when oscillated. The latch bolt 1 is retained in the retracted position by a projection 32 engaging a projection 33 on a lever 34 which is depressed when the door is closed by a rod 30 pivoted to a cam 37 which is engaged by a slide 38.
