[Class 44] A lock comprises a casing 2, a bolt 3 pivotally mounted therein and projected or withdrawn by a slide 7 mounted for linear movement on a rail 8, locking means holding the slide at both ends of the linear travel and a rotatable key or knob operated member 17 movable first to free the slide from one locked terminal position and then to move the slide to its opposite locked terminal postion. A lever part 13 has a spring plunger 24 urging it to engage with the members 17 or with projections 23 on the casing one of which is adapted to engage in one of the recesses 15 in the arm to lock the slide in either terminal position. A cam part 25 formed on the member 17 first displaces the arm out of engagement with the projection 23 as the member 17 is turned. On' continued rotation, teeth 16 on the member 17 engage in the recess 15 and displace the slide along the rail. A nose 9 formed on the slide engages in a shaped opening 10 on the near side of the bolt so that the bolt is moved from the fully projected position (shown) to the fully retracted position as the slide moves from one end of the rail to the other. In the fully projected position a flat surface 11 on the rear of the bolt abuts the end of the slide 7 to prevent the bolt being forced to the unlocked position. A hooked end 6 engages over a wall of the staple plate 4. The member 17 is formed in two parts coaxially arranged and individually operable from either side of the door. Both parts may be operated by barrel locks or the inside one may be operated by a knob. Specifications 632,768 and 641,072 are referred to.
