Class 44. - A lock for car doors &c. comprises a cam bar 4 which is movable transversely of a lock case 1 to project a latch bolt 2 and a hand grip 18 having a boss 17 thereon which is mounted in a socket 16 on the lock case and is adapted to be axially movable therein to operate the cam bar 4, the boss 17 having a barrel lock therein for coacting with the socket 16 to hold the bolt 2 in the projected position to lock the door. The hand grip 18 is disposed on the outside of the door and is mounted at 19 on the case 1 for limited pivotal movement relative to the latter. The cam bar 4 has one end thereof fixed to the boss 17 of the hand grip 18 and its other end fixed to a spindle 9 disposed on the inside of the door, and a knob 12 is rotatably mounted on the spindle 9 and inside a boss 1a of the lock case 1. The cam bar 4 is moved to project the bolt 2 against the action of a compression spring 6 by pulling the knob 12 or pushing the hand grip 18 and the bolt 2 is held in the projected position by operation of the barrel lock in the hand grip 18 or rotation of the knob 12 to engage a pin 13 on the latter in the side branch of an L-shaped slot 14 in the boss 1a. The bolt 2 is retracted by the spring 6 when the cam bar 4 is moved in the opposite direction by pushing the knob 12 or pulling the hand grip 18 after the knob 12 has been reversely rotated or the barrel lock reversely operated. The L- shaped slot 14 may be replaced by a helical slot and the head 3 of the bolt 2 may be independently spring-loaded. Specification 839,328 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
