A casement window fastening comprises in combination a body part 7 adapted to be mounted adjacent the free edge of the window, a handle 9 angularly movable on the body part 7, a catch piece 10 angularly movable relative to the handle 9, a pin 11 spring-loaded in a direction to clutch the catch piece 10 to the handle 9 for angular movement therewith, a spring-loaded bolt 13 movable by its spring 14 in a direction to disengage the pin 11 and to lock the catch piece 10 in an operative position, a key operable lock 16 for moving the bolt in opposition to its spring-loading, and a manually releasable press button 17 for retaining the bolt 13 against the action of its spring 14. The lower portion of the body part 7 is bifurcated to provide limbs 7a in which is rotatably mounted a spindle 8, the latter having fixed to the outer end thereof the handle 9 and having rotatably mounted, on the portion thereof disposed between the limbs 7a, the catch piece 10; the latter portion of the spindle 8 has slidably mounted therein the pin 11 which is spring- loaded to project radially from the spindle 8 into a recess 12 in the catch piece 10. When the catch piece 10 is in the operative position in which it engages a fixed part of the window surround a part 12a of the recess 12 is disposed opposite the lower end of the bolt 13; the latter is normally retained in the retracted position by the button 17 which is spring-loaded to engage a notch 13b in the bolt 13 and upon the button being depressed, the bolt is urged by its spring 14 to enter the part 12a to lock the catch piece 10 and to overcome the spring-loading of the pin 11 so disengaging the latter from the catch piece 10. The lock 16 is provided with a barrel having an eccentrically mounted peg 16a at its inner end, the peg 16a, when the lock is operated, engaging a notch 13a in the bolt 13 to retract the latter which is then automatically retained in this positon by the button 17. The body part 7 has secured thereto by screws 21 a detachable cover 20 which is undercut at 20a for slidably receiving in engagement therewith a mounting member 22, the latter member and the cover 20 being subsequently secured together by a transversely extending-pin 24. The member 22 is adapted to be secured to the window by screws 23 and when the member is so secured and the cover 20 is engaged therewith the screws 21 and 23 are inaccessible. When the button 17 is depressed to release the bolt 13 the button projects through a hole in the cover 20 into a recess 26 in the member 22 thus ensuring against relative sliding movement between the cover 20 and the member 22.
