Class 44 In a key-operated barrel lock combined with actuating means for a vehicle door or other fastening, in which the barrel is movable from unlocked to locked position without the use of the key, the bore containing the lock barrel has longitudinal grooves with which the outer ends of the spring loaded pawls cooperate to retain the barrel in both operative and inoperative positions while allowing it to be turned from inoperative to operative position, without using the key. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the barrel c, mounted on a fixed bush a, carries an arm d adapted to actuate the door or other fastening, and, at the outer end, a finger piece e. Two longitudinal grooves f, g, conveniently spaced at 90 degrees apart, are alternatively engageable by the spring loaded pawls h of the barrel, the sides of the groove f being inclined, while those of the groove h are parallel when the pawls are engaged in groove f, in the unlocked position, the barrel can be turned by hand to the locked position in which the pawls enter groove h. In push-button operated actuating means, Fig. 4, a rotating barrel c is mounted in a bore in a sliding, non-rotating pushbutton j, and carries a finger piece e, and a member m adapted to release the door fastening. Formed on or secured to the member m are a pair of lateral ribs, which in the unlocking position of the barrel can pass through gaps r in a cover plate o; in the locked position these ribs prevent depression of the push button. The longitudinal grooves in the bore of the push-button are formed as before described. In a modification, the lock barrel is mounted in the fixed handle i, and, by means of an eccentric pin, moves a sliding plate adapted in the locking position to engage under the head of the push-button. In another form, Fig. 11, an annular member v is mounted in the cover-piece o and held in position by a spring p which acts on the push button j. A radial arm x, Fig. 13, extends from the member # and passes through a slot in the handle. The cover piece o is formed with gaps r, through which lateral projections g on the member m can pass on rotation of the latter by contact with an internal projection y in the bore of the annular member # when the latter is rotated by means of arm x. In the form shown in Fig. 18, a handle 4 is secured through a boss 5 to the outer end of a spindle 6, the boss being secured in an annular mounting 7. The barrel lock c in the boss actuates a bolt 9, sliding in a transverse hole in the boss, by means of an eccentric pin a. In the locked position the bolt 9 enters a recess 14 in the mounting 7; it can be pushed into locking position by means of a pushbutton 13, and then retracted only by key operation of the barrel lock c. Several further modifications are described.
