Night latches; hasp locks.-The casing of the lock has extensions 3 which project beyond the edge of the door to interfit with the hasps 4, Fig. 7, of the keeper 5 on the door frame. The hookshaped bolts 17 are carried by the sliding bolt plate 16 urged downwards by the spring 25 but retained in the unlocked position, Fig. 1, by the pawl 27, the shoulder 30 of which engages the stop 32. When the door is closed, the spring detent 33 is pressed inwards bv contact with the keeper 5, and its lower end, by the engagement of the flanges 37, 31, draws forward the pawl 27 so that its shoulder 30 clears the stop 32. When the bolt has descended to the locked position, Fig. 2, the spring 38 throws out the detent 33 which has passed clear of the keeper 5, and also swings back the pawl 27 so that its shoulder 29 engages below the stop 30. In unlocking by turning the knob 9, Fig. 5, an arm 11 of the follower 10 presses upon the finger 28 and disengages the pawl 27, afterwards acting on one of the lugs 18 to raise the bolt plate 16 and bolts 17. Unlocking is effected from outside the door by a barrel lock 6, the connector 7 of which operates a follower 8 similar to the follower 10. The bolts may be locked, independently of the automatic device, by the handle or key. If it be desired to prevent locking either automatically or by hand, a pin 22 is pushed inwards by a knob 23 on the inside of the door so as to engage in the slot 21 in the bolt plate 16, as shown in Fig. 1.
