Abstract
930. Cossor, F., and Flory, T. W. Jan. 14. Calculating-apparatus.-In adding-machines operated manually by a stylus inserted in a hole of a wheel or disk, the withdrawal of the stylus is prevented from imparting a reverse movement to the disk and so causing an error in the calculation. The holes d in the disk a are accessible through a slot e in the dial-plate c, a portion f of the slot acting as a stop for the stylus. The disk a is provided with teeth h, with which a pawl j engages to prevent accidental displacement of the disk. To prevent reverse movement also, on withdrawing the stylus too rapidly, a spring non-return gate k is mounted between the disk and plate. When the stylus reaches the stop f, it cannot rebound.
