29,477. Pallweber, J. Dec. 31. Calculating-apparatus.-A single-bank keyboard machine adds numbers up to ten directly, and higher numbers by repeated operation. The nine keys 18, Figs. 1 and 2, are pivoted upon a common shaft 19, and bear upon the inclined edges of a sliding plate 9 so as to move it to the right when depressed, the degree of motion controlling the stroke of the pawl arm 7, which feeds the ratchetwheel 6 forwards when the parts are returned by the spring 10. An additional arm 18<1> engages the inclined edge 15, and is operated by the pivoted yoke 21 for the purpose of giving a ten-feed to the ratchet-wheel, which actuates a totalizing-counter of three numbering-wheels, as shown. Gearing with the hundreds' spindle of the counter is a wheel 27 with pin 28, which is used during the clearing operation. The pawl 24 engages with the ratchet-wheel by gravity, and is arrested against a stop piece 26 shaped so as to arrest it gently and obviate noise.
