[Class 83 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIII] In an indexing mechanism of the type wherein a peripherally notched rotatable index plate is associated with means for moving it intermittently, the index plate is in combination with an oscillatory member carrying a plate-actuating pawl, a locking lever for securing the pawl in operative position, and means for actuating the lever from a stationary ramp. A rocking member b is mounted coaxially with a notched index-plate a and stationary ramp x, and carries an arm d pivotally mounted at c, a tooth e on the arm engaging the notches in the plate. A projection on the arm extends through a gap in the rocking member to carry two fingers, one of which, q is slotted for radial movement on being displaced through contact with the ramp x, and the other, p is located by the common axis v, both fingers being spring-biassed against a side-stop s. On moving the member b clockwise the indexing plate is rotated, and towards the end of the stroke the finger q engages the ramp and rocks a member through a push-rod m to release a member g from engagement with the arm d. The engaging tooth e is then released by the contact of the finger p with the ramp x. On the return movement of the plate b, the tooth e slides on the periphery of the indexing plate until the spring-loaded plunger k urges it into the next notch. Wear on the tooth is reduced by the provision of a roller z engaging a ridge 2 on the index plate.
