723,073. Change-speed gearing. TURNER, E., and TRIUMPH ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. May 26, 1953 [Oct. 30, 1952], No. 27275/52. Class 80 (2). Gear control mechanism for motor cycles comprises a pivoted selector plate 11 which has cam slots 20, 21 engaged by projections 22 on gear forks 23 and which is turned one step up or down at a time by appropriate operation of a lever fast on a shaft 27 carrying a holder 28 for a pair of oppositely-acting spring-loaded plunger pawls 29, 30 co-acting with arcuately-arranged recesses 25 in the plate 11. The shaft 27 is at right-angles to the pivot 13 of the plate 11 and the slots 20, 21 lie between the pivot 13 and the curved end of the plate which has locating notches 14 ... 18 corresponding to the various gear positions and to neutral and co-operating with a spring detent 19. Shaft 27 is returned to mid-position after each gear change by a spring 31. The plunger pawls 29, 30, outward movement of which is limited by a circlip 35, may be parallel, as shown, or' inclined to each other.
