Abstract

100.542. Jaeger, E. May 25, 1915, [Convention date]. Periodie-counter speed indicators. - Motion is conveyed from an engine or other shaft through wheels 5, 7, mounted on a sleeve 6, to a shaft 9 on which is mounted a toothed-barrel 10 driven by a slipping spring, the intermittent movement of the barrel being governed by an escapement. Secured to the barrel is a cam 21 provided with four projecting fingers 22 adapted to rock a.spring- controlled three-armed lever 23, Fig. 1, pivoted at 23<a> and having secured to one arm one end of a shaft 25, Fig. 4, this end being capable of oscillation in a slot in the main framing. The shaft 25 is driven from a wheel 8 in engagement with the wheel 7 and bears a fine-toothed wheel 27 brought by the oscillation of the shaft into and out of engagement with a similar wheel 103 on a shaft 29. Motion is conveyed to the indicating-shaft 34 through a pinion 31 on the shaft 29 engaging a loose wheel 32 provided with a pin 39, which moves a similar wheel 35 through a loose piece 37 on the shaft and a pin 38 on the wheel 35, this arrangement allowing the indicating-hand to make more than one revolution. Control of the movement of the wheels 32, 35 is effected by pawls 44, 45 adapted to engage the wheel 103 and a similar wheel 43 driven from the wheel 35. The pawls are caused to operate alternately on the wheels by the cam 21, Fig. 1, with which an arm 47 of a spring-depressed lever 48 engages. Return movement of the wheels 32, 35 is effected by spring-controlled sectors 50, 51 engaging pinions 33, 36 on the wheels, a flyer 30 on the shaft 29 serving to brake the movement. A zero stop for the shaft 29 comprises a pin 56, Fig. 2. on a slide 55, the pin co-operating with a stop 57 on the shaft 29, and the slide being moved into an inoperative position at the commencement of an engagement period by a slot 59, Fig. 1, in the sector 50 engaging a pin 58 on the slide 55. The Specification as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a) comprises also the provision of time indicating hands capable of being set to zero and with two revolution counters one of which may be zeroized daily. The minute and hour hands 61, 60 are driven from the shaft 9 through motion-work 68, 69, 70 between the wheels 63, 62. The pinion 70 is mounted on one arm of a rocking lever 78 which, when forced inwards by a push, disengages the pinion 70 and causes an arm of the lever 78 to strike heart-cams 80, 81 to return the hands to zero, the minutewheel 63 being frictionally mounted on its shaft. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
