Abstract

705,105. Watches. CERVINKA, B., and CERVINKA, V. Nov. 1, 1951 [May 18, 1951], No. 25558/51. Class 139 A self-winding device for a watch comprises an oscillatory weight adapted to transmit its energy to the winding mechanism in both directions of its oscillatory movement, by imparting a driving thrust, which is in the same direction of rotation irrespective of the direction of oscillation of the weight, to the barrel ratchet of the movement through the intermediary of a group of movable parts rotatably mounted on a pin fixed to a bridge of said movement, each such driving thrust involving the giving up of kinetic energy gathered by the weight during a preceding period of free movement, said group of movable parts comprising a pinion meshing with the barrel ratchet and being rigidly locked with a ratchet wheel driven by a winding pawl fixed to a pawl-holder, and said weight being adapted to strike said pawl-holder so as to throw it constantly in the same direction, the pawl-holder coming back into its starting position after each stroke under the action of a restoring spring. As the weight 2 swings counter-clockwise it strikes the lug 6 of a pawl-holder 5 which is thereby rocked counter-clockwise about its pivot 12 against the pressure of a spring 10 and a pawl 8 carried by the holder 5 steps-on the ratchet wheel 4. A pinion 3 integral with the ratchet 4 then drives the barrel ratchet 14. As the weight 2 swings clockwise a lever 13 carried thereby strikes a shoulder 6<SP>1</SP> of the pawlholder 5 which is again rocked counterclockwise to drive the barrel ratchet 14 through the pawl 8, the ratchet 4 and the pinion 3. A spring pressed pawl 7 prevents backward rotation of the ratchet 4. The spring 10 which is anchored at one end to the holder 5 by a screw 15 and rests at the other end against a pin 9 urges the pawlholder clockwise until its lug 6 meets the pin 9. The tension of the spring 10 may be altered by moving the pin 9 to one or other of the holes 9' in the bridge 1.
