Class 139 In an alarm clock having one spring for driving the going train and the alarm train, the mechanism for determining the duration of the alarm also varies the intensity of the sound. In the first example, Fig. 1, the going train is driven from the barrel and the alarm train from the barrel arbor 12 through a pawl and ratchet clutch 18, 19. A lever 33, Fig. 6, frictionally mounted on the arbor 12 controls a rocker member 30 the arm 30e, Fig. 1, of which co-operates with the alarm hammer 27, 28 to which the alarm anchor 26 is connected. A holding spring 32 co-operates with the rocker 30. The arrangement is such that when the alarm is released, the arm 30e at first limits the travel of the hammer 27, 28, and as the spring unwinds, the lever 33 moves the rocker 30 so that the arm 30e no longer limits the 'travel of the hammer 27, 28. On the continued unwinding of the spring, the lever 33 again moves the rocker 30 so that the arm 30e finally locks the hammer 27, 28. In the second example, Fig. 11, the alarm hammer 139 is controlled by a cam 137 frictionally mounted on the spring arbor 113. The hammer 139 initially has a limited movement, then full movement and is finally locked. In a modification, Fig. 13, a one-toothed gear 201 frictionally mounted on the spring arbor 113 drives a gear 202 which controls the alarm hammer 139. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 698,810.
