Abstract

1,187,752. Clocks and watches. UNITED STATES TIME CORP. Jan.2, 1969 [Jan.23, 1968], No.383/69. Heading G3T. In a horological movement a friction slip mechanism, for disconnecting at least part of the dial train from the time keeping oscillator during setting of the time keeping means, comprises a gear 11 integral with or secured to a staff 12 over which fits an arbor 18 having a slot 31 in which engages a spring 26 urging the arbor 18 and the staff 12 to rotate together. The gear 11 meshes with the centre wheel 10 secured to the minute tube 9, and the arbor 18 carries the third wheel 34 meshing with the fourth wheel pinion 7a on the staff 5 carrying the seconds hand (not shown). A balance wheel (not shown) drives a train comprising an index wheel and pinion, fourth wheel 7b, pinion 7a, third wheel 34 and pinion 11, centre wheel 10, minute tube 9, a further wheel and pinion, and an hour wheel (not shown). To set the hands a crown is pulled out, which causes a magnet or clutch mechanism to halt the index wheel and thereby the third wheel 34, and on rotation of the crown the centre wheel 10 and pinion 11 are rotated to set the hour and minute hands, slippage between the spring 26 and the staff 12 permitting the latter to be rotated.
