Abstract

1,64,230. Electric timepieces. BULOVA WATCH CO. Inc. Feb. 9, 1966 [Feb. 10, 1965], No. 5752/66. Heading G3T. In an electronic timepiece wherein a vibrating index finger 21 engages ratchet teeth on an index wheel 19 coupled to a gear train 30 - 38 having a minute wheel 38 and a seconds wheel 32 and wherein a pawl 25 engages the ratchet teeth to prevent reverse motion of the index wheel, a time setting mechanism comprises a hack lever 42 having a pin 47 to lift the pawl away from the ratchet wheel and a shoe portion 45 for engaging a brake disc 46 mounted on the seconds wheel shaft to brake the seconds wheel, and a clutch wheel 48 for engaging a setting wheel 50 meshed with the minutes wheel. When a stem 39 is pulled outwardly it releases a nose 42a of the lever 42 and a spring 44 rotates the lever so that the pin 47 lifts the pawl 25 away from the ratchet wheel 19 without disturbing the index finger 21 which thus causes the wheel 19 to oscillate. On further pulling the stem, the shoe 45 engages the brake disc 46 to stop the movement of the seconds wheel and then a setting lever 51 cams a clutch lever 49 which forces the clutch wheel 48 down into engagement with the setting wheel 50 against the action of a spring 56.
