Abstract
1343745 Watches CITIZEN WATCH CO Ltd 21 Feb 1972 [12 July 1971] 7883/72 Heading G3T [ Also in Division H1] In an electric timepiece having an axially movable setting stem 2, an additional outer stem position is provided in which the drive circuit is de-energised to conserve the battery 19 when the timepiece is stored. Three stem positions are determined by a lever 3 which is rotatable about a pin 3e and carries a pin 3b engaging in notches 8a-c on a resilient arm 8d g a spring member 8. Fig.1 shows the innermost stem position in which a clutch wheel 5, which is slidable on the stem 2, meshes with a wheel 4 having a tooth 4a for setting a date ring 111. Resiliently mounted contacts 16a, 17a are held closed by lever portion 3c, energizing circuit block 18 so that a tuning fork 13 oscillates and advances an index wheel 14 by means of a drive pawl 12. In an intermediate stem position Fig. 2 (not shown), the clutch wheel 5 engages a time setting wheel 6. Contacts 16a, 17a remain closed to energise the fork 13 but a non-return pawl 11 is lifted off the wheel 14 by a pin 9a on a lever 9. A further portion 9b of the lever arrests a disc 15 fixed to the seconds hand shaft. In the outermost stem position, contact 17a is allowed to move away from contact 16a by anti-clockwise rotation of the lever 3. The clutch wheel 5 occupies an intermediate position, meshing neither with the wheel 4 nor the wheel 6. A particular form of arm 8d is described Fig. 5 (not shown) which produces a mechanical impulse to initiate oscillation of the fork 13 when the stem 2 is pushed fully in.
