Abstract

748,186. Clocks. JUNGHANS, H., and JUNGHANS, AKT.-GES., GEB. July 10, 1953 [July 11, 1952; July 11, 1952] No. 19206/53. Class 139 In an alarm clock the hammer blows increase in frequency and strength as the alarm mechanism runs down. The hammer rod 5, Fig. 1, is bent at right-angles at 16a, 16 to enter the recess 14c between two arms 14b<SP>1</SP>, 14b<SP>2</SP> of the control lever 14 which has a recess 14a by which it is mounted on the alarm spring arbor 1. The lever 14 has a finger 14e which co-operates as decribed later with a ratchet wheel 11 on the escape wheel shaft 9. A spring 15 urges the lever 14 downwardly. A cam 17 is frictionally mounted on the shaft 1 and is normally positioned so that a right-angled projection 17c abuts the edge of a frame plate and has a cam surface 17a and projections 17e, 17g. In operation when the alarm anchor-arbor 2 is freed the alarm escape wheel 4 oscillates the anchor 3 and the rod 5 the. arm 16a, 16 of which oscillates. the lever 14. The lever 14 is momentarily locked during each swing by the engagement of the finger 14e with a tooth of the ratchet 11 so that the rate of striking of the hammer 6 is slow. At the same time the movement of the hammer 6 towards the bell 7 is blocked by the projection 17e of the cam 17. As the alarm spring runs down the cam 17 rotates and the projection 17e is moved from the arm 16 so that the hammer 6 is allowed its full stroke. Upon continued movement of the cam 17 the cam surface 17a abuts a pin 18 on the lever 14 which is thereby moved longitudinally so that the finger 14e leaves the ratchet to increase the rate of oscillation of the hammer 6. If the clock is of the type in which the hammer 105, Fig. 4, strikes a pin 107 carried by a frame plate the hammer is cranked at 105a and cooperates with the projection 17g of the cam 17 for initially limiting the hammer stroke. Alarm stopping. Upon depression of a push button stem 52 a lever 50 rocks a lever 51 which effects a slight backwards movement of the escape wheel 4 and the parts 50, 51 are retained interlocked by the force of the alarm spring.
