Abstract
1284062 Feeding cards or tape to a punching machine SOC INDUSTRIELLE HONEYWELL BULL 27 Jan 1970 [29 Jan 1969] 3993/70 Heading B4B [Also in Division F2] Cards or tape 1 are fed stepwise to punches (not shown) by a roller 3 on a shaft 4 to which at least one ratchet wheel, e.g. 5 is fixed, the ratchet wheel being indexed by a pawl 11A pivotably mounted on a lever 7 which can pivot about the axis of the shaft 4. The pawl 11A is moved on the lever by a cam 14, rotated with a shaft 15 and engaging a follower 13 on an arm 12 fixed to the pawl 11A, the pawl being retracted from engagement with the teeth of the ratchet wheel by an electromagnet 24. The follower 13 is urged against the cam by a spring 16 which also urges a freely revolvable friction roller 20 against a second cam 21, rotated by the shaft 15. The cam 21 imparts a rocking motion to the lever 7 causing the pawl 11A to index the ratchet wheel 5. When the electromagnet 24 is energized, it attracts the pawl 11A on to a self-lubricating non-magnetic support 26, the polepieces 22, 23 and support having part cylindrical surfaces concentric with the shaft 4 to allow the retracted pawl to rock when out of engagement with the ratchet teeth. Two ratchet wheels 5, 6 having corresponding pawls 11A, 11B may be provided, the pawls being rocked by identical cams 11A, 11B set 90 degrees out of phase.
