902,324. Ink-ribbon mechanisms. VERWALTUNGSGESELLSCHAFT DER WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. Dec. 16, 1960 [Dec. 16, 1959], No. 43426/60. Class 100 (4). An automatic ink-ribbon reversing mechanism comprises a pair of spools 15, 16 with associated gears 10, 11 mounted on a two-position holder 13 rockable by the action of cams 25, 26, so that the gears 10, 11 are alternatively in engagement with the worms 7, 8 on a continuously rotating shaft 5 which effects the changeover by an axial movement caused when the spools and gears are unable to rotate. The exhaustion of the ribbon prevents rotation of the gears 10, 11 and the drive to the axial shaft 5 causes it to axially move, and by means of detent arrangement 19-22, it moves into a second position where the other cam engages the stop surfaces 26, 27 to rock the holder 13. In an alternative embodiment to shaft 5 may rock and the holder 13 remain stationary.
