Abstract
1,089,254. Sewing machines. NECCHI S.p.A. Feb. 26, 1965 [March 20, 1964], No. 8269/65. Heading D1G. [Also in Division F2] In a zig-zag sewing machine a pack of rotary pattern cams 17, Fig. 1, is movable axially on shaft 13 to engage selectively a follower lever acting on a rod 10 effecting the transverse movement of the gate 4 of the needle bar 3, the gate 4 being suspended by a leaf spring 5 which biasses the gate to the extreme right hand position. As shown in Figs. 4 and 5 the pack of cams comprises spaced profiled discs 36, 37, 38 and the follower 30 has inclined surfaces 45, 46 on its cam engaging end 32 so that it can ride easily from cam disc to cam disc on axial shifting of the pack of cams. This axial shifting is effected by a frame 16 carrying a rack 20 meshing with a gear 21 on a shaft 22 turnable by a knob 23. A disc 25 on shaft 22 has peripheral notches corresponding to the number of cam discs which are engaged by a spring catch 28 to hold the cams in selected positions. In a modified cam arrangement, Fig. 7 (not shown), the edges of the high parts of the cam discs are bevelled inclined surfaces of the follower are unnecessary.
