Abstract

1303898 Number printing apparatus ADOLPH GOTTSCHO Inc 26 Oct 1970- [17 April 1970] 50680/70 Heading B6C A machine for printing successive symbols of a series, on articles B which move along a given path, is driven by engagement of the articles B with rotary drive means which actuate a printing mechanism and alter the symbol printed from one article to another. Preferably the machine includes an ink impregnated roller 190 from which ink is passed to number wheels by a forme roller 160, as the number wheels, which are contained within a cylinder 64 and project through a window 84, pass the roller 160. The cylinder 64 carries friction rings 76, 78 which are engaged by the articles B and cause the cylinder 64 to rotate. A spring 48 biases the printing mechanism clockwise about the shaft into the path of the articles B and means may be provided to ensure that after a minimum rotation of the cylinder 64 by a box B the cylinder 64 is returned to an initial position which is the same for each printing operation.
