Abstract

1316271 Printing apparatus MAX JACKSON DEVELOPMENTS Ltd 13 May 1970 [13 May 1969] 24437/69 Heading B6C Cylindrical or frusto-conical containers are printed in succession with a plurality of colours by being mounted on rotating mandrels 15, carried by an intermittently rotating turret which places the articles alternately at printing stations where they are printed on by rotary printing cylinders 12 and at drying stations spaced alternately with the printing stations. Containers 55 are held to mandrels 15 by suction, and are printed on with one colour by each plate cylinder 12, then are removed by cam action and an air blast. The plate cylinders 12 are driven by gears linked to the drive for the turret and for the mandrels 15, so that registration is preserved. Small errors in registration are adjusted by axial or circumferential movement of the cylinders 12 on their supporting shafts. The cylinders 12 are mounted on slides 34, so that their spacing relative to the mandrels 15 can be changed, or the cylinders 12 exchanged. Each cylinder 12 is inked by a knurled forme roller 91, which receives ink from a duct roller 90 and is swept by a doctor blade 92. The inking apparatus is mounted on a slide 94 running in guides 95 on the slide 34 and actuated by a pneumatic cylinder.
