Abstract

1,116,163. Printing apparatus; type wheels. KIMBALL SYSTEMS Ltd. 12 Aug., 1965 [14 Aug., 1964], No. 34607/65. Headings B6C and B6F. A travelling cylinder web-fed label printing machine which may be manually or motor driven comprises a flat, or slightly concave, adjustable impression bed 65 and a coacting rotary unit 6 which carries three rotatable printing cylinders 12, 13 and 14 each of which comprises a series of manually adjustable type wheels 16. Each label which is imprinted by each printing cylinder during one complete revolution of the unit 6, is fed to the impression bed, which may have an elastomeric insert P, on a strip-like temporary support carrying spaced indentations engageable by the tip of a pusher device 49. The latter is automatically operated through a cam arrangement 54, 55 to enable intermittent label feed simultaneously with the rotation of the unit 6. Each printing cylinder, which is rotated through an epicyclic gearing arrangement, is inked on passing an impregnated pad 33 which is mounted to enable ink replenishment in situ through passages 31. Each printing cylinder 12, 13, 14 comprises a series of manually settable type wheels which may readily be removed from the shaft of the cylinder to facilitate renewal or exchange.
