Abstract

1,237,965. Intaglio printing apparatus. CHAMBON Ltd. 29 July, 1969 [2 Aug., 1968], No. 37926/69. Heading B6C. To make possible the changing of intaglio forme cylinders in a web-fed rotary intaglio printing machine without loss of tension or registration in the web 3, two separate intaglio forme cylinders 2, 2a are provided, and may alternatively be brought into contact with an impression cylinder 1. One or other of the forme cylinders 2, 2a is always in contact with impression cylinder 1. Each printing cylinder 2, 2a runs in a bath of ink, and is wiped by a first doctor blade 28 and a second doctor blade 29, 29a. Pneumatic actuators are used to shift the cylinders 2, 2a and their associated inking devices bodily in and out of engagement. A web 3 may be printed on by a cylinder 2, then by a cylinder 2a, and finally by a further printing cylinder replacing the cylinder 2.
